hey everyone! as you may know, naver recently bought wattpad. (they are the company that owns webtoon, by the way.)
they're a south korean company, and they have laws that prohibit a few things online, such as (but not limited to)
-pornography
-sexual violence
-materials harmful to minors
now, i don't know if the first two apply to written works as well, but for the purposes of this announcement we will assume they do.
and you know what that means! GIANT FIC PURGE!
so here's what that means: if you write smut, bdsm (that one ties into smut), noncon/dubcon, explicit language, anything that might teach children a bad lesson, or (possibly) lgbtq+ works, back them up. copy and paste everything into a document.
if you don't have one already, SIGN UP FOR AN AO3 ACCOUNT! I cannot stress this enough! if you don't do it asap, there's gonna be waitlists months long.
once you have your ao3 account up and running, you'll wanna copy your fics either from here or from your doc. then, you open ao3 and hit post. here you can enter your fic. careful though, if you don't post it right away ao3 only holds drafts for a few days or weeks. then, you add your tags (the ao3 tagging system is SO MUCH better than wattpad's, you won't regret making the switch). after that, do anything else you need to (make it multi-chaptered, a series, whatver) then post it.

@yourkellicis-showing you can copy your own works from anywhere, but you can't copy others' works! trust me, I've tried. copy/pasting other peoples ' fics is prohibited everywhere

@yourkellicis-showing yeah it’s easier to use. but wattpad is seriously declining. the app is 13+ and a place for writers. not for children. get the children off the internet. tumblr is like the only decent social media atm LMAO

@ChaosInTheKitchen ah can you copy off the computer? Because I don’t think you can off the phone. Complexes is another Sarah fic I can’t lose again I love it so much haha. Luckily all of mine are written in Google docs before I paste them into Wattpad. But ya I had to wait a few days for my ao3 account tok
