            Well, I would say it depends, are you writing a love story, fanfic? However, I'm glad you asked. A few suggestions I have for any type of book would be:
            
            1) Keep updating, when starting a story update often (3 days-1 week) and as your story gets more popularity, you can slow down (2 weeks-1 month)
            2) Don't be afraid to vote and follow others. I don't promote my stories, but I follow other people because I luv their stories and sometimes they'll read mine :)
            3) Nice covers! A nice cover is always appealing and will help you get more curious readers
            4) Be adventurous, don't be afraid to come up with a new original and a little strange idea, it's your book after all!
            5) HAVE FUN!
