Am I the only one that takes note on the fact that a lot of songs go from talking about someone, to talking to someone?
Alright, that probably didn't make much sense. I'll use the Bruno Mars song 'Just The Way You Are' as an example.
So, in the first couple of lyrics he's saying, "She's so beautiful, and I tell her every day." He's talking about that person, like how an author would talk about a character in the third person. And then, in the chorus, he says, "When I see your face, there's not a thing that I would change." The person he was previously talking about, he is now directly talking to?
I don't know. I've just never understood why songwriters do that. The sudden narrative shift occurs a lot in songs.
On a sidenote, I'd just like to say that it's kind of unfair that book writers have to be consistent in the way they narrate stories, and nobody cares when it comes to songs.
Of course I know *why* its like this. I just think the consistency in narration should apply to both, as song lyrics and books are both forms of literature and are both ways of storytelling.
Thats just my stupid, random opinion, though,
