I just started Fault Line, and I really like the tension in the setup. Evie being sharp, chaotic, and hard to ignore, while Trevor seems like the kind of guy who doesn’t just notice the chaos, but actually wants to understand what’s underneath it. That kind of dynamic is so interesting because it can be playful on the surface, but still feel emotionally dangerous. In my own YA story, Lou hides behind jokes, chaos, and nervous overthinking, while JJ is someone from her past who starts noticing the little details she tries to cover up. From a writer’s perspective, do you think a love interest should calm a chaotic character down, or match her energy first before earning the right to see the softer parts?
