I am a writer and author, based in a small town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Besides writing, one of my big interests is wildlife and nature conservation, especially in Africa, where the continent is losing wildlife faster than ever before due to a slew of factors including illegal hunting and poaching, habitat destruction, poisoning of birds and wildlife and human-wildlife conflict, to name but a few. This led to our establishing a paperless, electronic magazine in November 2010, focusing on the conservation of birds in southern Africa. However, many of the people we interviewed started telling us about other wildlife in trouble and, in July 2012, we changed our approach and the magaziine "Conservation Africa" was born. Like our previous publication, it is only available electronically and also focuses on efforts to conserve and protect the continent's wildlife, birds and natural landscapes (including protected areas and important conservation areas).
We recently entered the ebook business too, and have published an e-book on the issue of fracking, which the South African government wants to introduce in this country - amid great opposition from informed conservationists and the local environmental movement, especially in the Karoo, a semi-arid area inland from Cape Town, which is one of the areas initially targeted for the use of this technology. "Storm Over the Karoo" documents the fight to date and also explains why fracking can be a bad thing, as evidenced by the US experience.
We plan more books - and all our efforts also support conservation initiatives in southern Africa through our Conservation Support Programme. For more about us visit www.conservationafrica.co.za and www.shop.conservationafrica.co.za
