@familyrocks19 I wanted to write this story and just give people the story in my head whenever I watched Criminal Mind, not worry so much about making it a final draft; I didn't even edit much because I knew if I did, I'd get hung up and not publish, which is what happened with this chapter. In the end, this chapter kind of paralyzed me, and the story can't continue without it. Someone also told me that the actor who plays Spencer was made aware of this story, and that freaked me out. I don't think he'd like it since Spencer isn't being tortured in this storyline, and I'm also a bit embarrassed because the first few chapters are rough looking back. Anyway, thanks so much for your support. I'm literally on an island and barely have wifi, so this is the best time to try to get this chapter sorted.

i'm not sure why or how people are finding my story right now; i keep seeing the views go up even though I haven't posted in a while. the first few chapters aren't as edited as they should be because i started publishing this story without thinking many people would see it and with the intention to reedit it afterwards. i just needed to get it out. please keep reading if you're still early in the story because the writing does get better. i will go back and actually edit the first few chapters but i'm trying to push past that urge for now so i can focus on getting new chapters published.
if i don't publish the next chapter by this Sunday (11/27) then someone slap me. i need the threat, or i will put off editing it. if it's ready or not, i can't stay on this chapter anymore i need to keep going, i'll come back and fix it later. this is my process, we're gonna roll with it.

@familyrocks19 Hey thank you! I had a lot of places to be over the summer then kind of a hectic beginning of fall but I was writing here and there just not a lot of time to edit. After spending the summer and fall trying to make chapter 24 work it just didn't work so two weeks ago I decided to change the chapter and I think I'm closer to a final edit. I've also been wanting to reedit the chapters I've already publish, I don't think they're good representation of my writing now and I don't want people to give up on this story in the first few chapters because of that. But I'll try to fight that urge and continue because i have 20ish more chapters to edit, all of which were written like last year I'm just slow at editing.

@familyrocks19 I'm so sorry I'm a liar. I didn't publish it that week because I had to read it one more time and get a picture for it. But as I was doing that, I realized the summer solstice is coming up, and seeing as the next chapter is on the summer solstice, I decided to wait to post it then. The next chapter after that will also be published soon after, I think it only needs one more edit and a title.

@familyrocks19 Yes I am! So sorry, I had a tough time deciding whether or not I would publish the next chapter or skip it all together, but I just finished editing it and will post it this week. I have written the rough draft of the entire SHB part 1 and outlined the story till the end of the show (and beyond), my biggest issue is editing what I have and constantly wanting to go back and edit what I've already published to get it up to par with what I'm currently writing. But I've decided to look at it like a first edit and once I've published it all I'll go back to fix the first 14 chapters again.

Before reading chapter 13, I wanted to let anyone reading this fanfic that a reason I wanted to write this story is because I see a lot of fanfics where y/n or the original character is madly in love with Spencer right off the bat. I wanted it to be gradual and for Violette to have a hard time with it. So you might get annoyed with her or impatient and that's okay but at this point she's known Spencer for a little over a year while most readers had 15 seasons to fall for him.
Happy Friday the 13th btw! It might be kismet that I finished this chapter early so might as well not miss the opportunity to publish today.

Thanks for everyone who's reading Should Have Been. Season 3 is all published, season 4 and 5 will also be apart of SHB part 1. If you're curious about Violette's past, it'll be revealed at the start of season 4. Also don't forget that season 3 started in 2007 and ended in 2008 that's why the 19th was on a Thursday.
I'm publishing an Episode Guide, it'll also have a picture of Violette's apartment layout and eventually pictures of Elliott and anything else that might come up.

Should Have Been is finally out now. If you had SHB the test one saved just know that I'm not updating on that one, this is SHB from the beginning so you'll see how Violette and Spencer got to that point in the relationship. In the long run this story will include most of what happened in Criminal Mind, Cat, Maeve, prison, his headaches. I want this story to be as plausible to CM storyline as I could make it. Because of this I will also be putting out an episode guide so you can see Violette while watching Criminal Minds.

i think the same exact thing and if anyone is complaining it that it doesn’t get spicy fast enough imma go crazy the story isn’t based on sex it’s based on the relationship and i absolutley love it so far your an amazing writer!!

@mggbaby124 Thank you! I'm working on Should Have Been from the beginning which is season 3 of criminal minds. I'm a little nervous because it doesn't get spicy for a while and I'm scared people won't keep reading. Let's be real Spencer isn't the type to jump into bed with a co worker so it has to build.
