No, it means that only DC or Marvel can call their characters 'super' hero as in "Emma Frost was a super ero," as opposed to "Emma Frost was a super hero," with a space in between. 'Superhero' isn't copywrited (I think).

Yeah, i heard that, too. So does that mean no other author can ever use the word superhero in their writings? :/ And technically, SuperHero can be argued that it's not referencing a superhero. It's Super Hero (a pun calling the character, Hero, super), and it's the name of a covert scientific experimentation. It doesn't actually mean superhero in the same sense.
