As an individual, I refrain from commenting on cricket feuds, but this time I couldn't help but share my opinion.
Over the past 4 weeks, I have seen a lot of people comment, "Its 11 vs whole nation", "The only country that doesnt respect its legends", "You will always be my hero XXX, unlike those who remember you for 82 against Pak".
All is fair and everyone's opinions are their own entitlement but in a country that thrives on cricket, I feel it's pretty natural for people to be miffed with their players when they aren't giving their best.
You can't expect a country to support you when you aren't even trying to hold onto the sport. And we all can be honest, that after our T20 World Cup win, there hasn't been much ghat our team has done.
And about particular players, I in all my senses feel Virat and Rohit should retire. I am all for giving chances and backing players when they are going through a lean patch, but now with all the trolls, and feedback it seems they need to take a step back and allow other combinations to be experimented with.
And at the end of the day the players signed under contract by BCCI work as professionals. Maybe Ganguly and Dhoni didn't take a break when their child was born and I have immense respect for them, but Virat and Rohit taking time out for their family isn't an offense. Yes, maybe after playing for almost 15 years and dedicating themselves to cricket they deserve the break. I feel the Board now needs to realize that they cannot exploit particular players to increase their revenue. And players also should take up the responsibility and either be back with the bang that they had or let go of the sport that now is questioning their legacy.
