The most deadly fungi is Amanita phalloides, or the Death Cap Mushroom. It’s responsible for 90% of reported mushroom-consumption fatalities and nowadays can be found all over the world. 1 mushroom is enough to kill an adult human, and the entirety of the mushroom is toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can take 6-24+ hours to begin and consist of violent stomach pains, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Symptoms may then subside for 1 to 2 days, giving a false impression of recovery but by this stage the toxin will have already caused serious liver damage. Death from serious liver damager occurs a few days later.
