So I was researching the average dragon lifespan and how long it takes them to reach adulthood in HTTYD to fix the Fog Poker (yep, still trying to fix it ) and I learned two things. One is that the average dragon (at least the large ones like Garf the Death Song and Torch the Typhoomerang) takes them 3-4 months to reach maturity, the titanic ones like the Bewilderbeast take around a year and keep in mind it takes a mouse a year to reach maturity. Two is that the average dragon lives for hundreds if not thousands of years. The Red Death lived for at least 300 years and her species lives for around 2000 years, the book version of Toothless lives for thousands of years, and while I don't like the Nine Realms series there is a dragon that Hiccup seals away for 1,300 years and lives all the way to modern times when it's released (dang hiccup really likes capturing dragons and locking them up ... I sense a pattern). The shortest lifespan we have is a Eruptodon named "The Great Protector" who lives up to 40 years old on "Defenders of the Wing Island" and who doesn't actually die at that age but flies off to Vanaheim to die at some point. So what have I learned? I have learned that it practically takes no time for them to reach adults and after that live practically forever just to make it everyone's problem ... and I find that crazy.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
