Posting Chapter 33 of Erased later this week. Here is a small teaser of what is to come.
Chapter 33:
Tick... Snap. Tok... Snap. Tick... Snap... Tok.
I stared up at the clock above the whiteboard. The teacher was speaking, but her voice sounded like it was coming from underwater. Muffled. Distant. Meaningless.
Tick... Snap. Tok... Snap.
I pulled on the rubber band wrapped around my wrist and let it snap against my skin with each passing second. The sting kept me anchored—barely. I felt numb. Disconnected. Like I wasn’t in my body, just floating outside of it, watching everything happen in slow motion.
Suddenly, my mother’s face flickered through my mind—a memory of us lying on my bed, laughing, painting each other’s nails, the room filled with sunlight and love. We were glowing in the warmth of the orange afternoon sun.
Snap.
Then it shifted. Her words after she found out I kissed Lilith. The betrayal in her eyes. The judgment in her voice. The rejection. The premature shoving out of the closet, like I was something to be exposed and ashamed of.
Snap... Tok... Snap... Tick...
The bell rang. Loud. Jarring. I blinked and looked up, my eyes meeting Arielle’s. Her gaze was glazed over—empty. She didn’t look okay.
She stood up slowly... but before she could take a step, her eyes rolled back and she collapsed forward.
"Arielle!" I screamed, lurching from my seat to catch her—but I was too late. Her body hit the floor with a loud crash, desks and chairs toppling with her.
The classroom froze. A wave of worry and confusion swept through everyone’s faces.
“Call Mr. Hooker!” our Spanish teacher finally yelled, and a few girls scrambled out the room.
I'm gonna leave it right there
