Phinehas "has turned my angerawayfrom the Israelites," was God's message; "Therefore say, Behold, I give to Phinehas my covenant of peace. He and his descendants are joined in a covenant of eternal priesthood, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the People of Israel."

God spoke to Moses, "Badger the Midianites and attack them, because they brought trouble to you with their schemes with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor and Cozbi, the daughter of a Midianite prince, their sister, who was killed the day of the plague that happened due to Peor."

          	—————

God told Moses to make a second census of the whole assemblage; everyone 20 and older. After the census, the daughters of Zelophehadson of Hepher, stoodbeforeMoses and Eleazar the priestand the leaders of the whole assemblage at the entrance to the Meeting Tent. They said, "Our father died in the wilderness for his own sin, not because he joined Korah. But he had no son. Why should his name be forgotten all because he had no son? Give us all his items and possessions along his relatives."
