I really wish people recognized fanfiction. Recognized it as the wonderful, magical, imaginative writing it is.

Recognized that it's hard work, and it's creative and powerful too. Recognized that it helps build our skills and our minds.

I wish I wasn't looked down upon or mocked for it. I wish I could go on about it in normal conversations without feeling embarrassed about it.

Because I love my fanfiction, and I work CRAZY hard on it. I spend hours and hours and hours every week, whenever I can, to update. I have almost 10 stories, hundreds of pages, hundreds more to write, and hundreds of fans to please. I write on multiple sites, and try to keep connected on all of them with my internet friends and readers. And people still think that my work is worthless and I should be focusing on something original that matters?

I try to ignore them, but it even happens in my own home. Then it gets harder to ignore how very unappreciated fanfictionists are.

My parents are the most supportive, amazing parents ever, but even I can tell that they don't think it's a big deal. They recognize how hard I work, but they don't how hard it IS. They love to brag about all my original stories and work, but never about the literal thousands (yes, it's reached the thousands) of pages I've written for my fanfiction. They have blatantly told me about original stories they think I SHOULD be working on, work where I can focus my credrive juices and make easy money (except it's not ABOUT that for me.)

I love fanfiction. I legitimately would NOT be a writer at all if it weren't for fanfiction. I wouldn't have discovered my only talent and passion in this world if it weren't for fanfiction.

Now please tell me why it's ruining fiction and why it means any less than the original work that other people my age are doing.

(sorry, I saw this post on Tumblr that really acknowledged my frustration.)

Hey I really miss your book because you inspired me to write the way I do now because you are so amazing and talented and your stories just touched me and amazed me so much! so please never stop writing because I can only dream of having the skill and talent that you do

@BooksDontCompare Hi! Oh my god, this is so sweet. I honestly haven't even thought of Finding A Fangirl in forever, I can't believe anyone remembers it.
I'm really sorry I just dropped off the face of the earth and left the story behind, but I just fell so much more in love with writing my own, original stories and I think I lost my love for writing fanfiction (but not reading it, that's for sure, I still have that fangirl love <3). So, honestly, I don't think I'll be going back to my old stories but I do really appreciate the thought and I'm so glad that I was able to do that for you (because honestly I really didn't know if I'd ever be able to, and I never thought I would so early in my hopefully long writing career). Thank you so much!!

I miss you and your amazing writing talents? Will you give me and the rest of us the pleasure of reading a new chapter by updating? :) ily

DalekDeductions

@BooksDontCompare Oh gods, I wish I could. I really will try to update as soon as I can, but to be completely honest, that won't be for a while. Just a couple more weeks, because I'm in a camp of the arts right now, and not only do I have the most limited time and truly horrifyingly terrible internet, but I'm not even supposed to be using my computer for this, but just original writing. I'm sorry!
