LONG RANT
1/?
I'm not gonna make this an announcement or anything but can I just talk about the way people use the term "larp"/"larping" nowadays? Cus its genuinely pmo now.
The word or abbreviation known (or relatively said and not exactly KNOWN in the sense that the definition is common knowledge) as "larp" originally stood for "live action role playing". It did NOT mean "poser" or ANYTHING like that. I've known this for many years because my granddad larps, or had previously larped. And no, live action role playing does not mean you're roleplaying as a dog or something you would on roblox. It is like DnD, but instead of a board game, it's a physical and *live action* version of it. It is used to play out fantasies LIKE DnD or something similar, or had previously been used to do so.
Now people just use it willy-nilly. Calling someone who's new and doesn't know a lot about things a "larper" is NOT how to use that correctly. They're NEW. There's also nothing TO larp if they don't know anything or are first starting out! If someone is pretending to know everything about a fandom they aren't in, but when it comes to they know nothing about it, that's called being a POSER or a KNOW-IT-ALL.
LARPING means pretending to be someone or something you're not. Kind of like cosplaying, but also being in character the whole time until the session is over.
If a cosplayer is in character at comicon, that's called cosplaying and perhaps also larping. If someone who isn't cosplaying but acts like the character at comicon, I'm pretty sure that can be called larping, but could also just be imitation or whatever. I don't have any solid examples for the difference between cosplaying and larping, sorry.
But an example of larping is when you go out to a gathering, planned, with swords made out of a softer, non-harmful material and shields with the same material, maybe even wearing same material armour, and duking it out with out people or hanging out with other people consensually.

Like can we not call people larpers if we don't know the actual meaning to it??? Like I get it the meaning can change but knowing the previous meaning, not being able to use it at all, then having it randomly used out of nowhere and INCORRECTLY is irritating. The same can't be said for the word "cooked" having its meaning changed because it was able to be used before, and was used in everyday language or sentences (same with "chopped"). But larp NEVER got the spotlight ONCE in my entire life until NOW. And its for some reason that doesn't even make sense. To make fun of people. People are getting called larpers for being new to a fandom, not knowing the exact date, time, place, and millisecond their favorite artist was born, and some stupid shii. Like dawg. Is this how old people feel when we make up terms for words??? Jesus.
And do we not know that words like poser, know it all, suck up, noob, newbie, and starter exist now??? Like.
" Oh that guy's larping!!!! " son he has a skateboard and isn't emo what do u mean larping... That's just a guy who skateboards who doesn't fit a stereotype.
"Larping final boss bro :wilted_flower: :wilted_flower:" that guy's just acting like he knows what has talking about but he doesn't. That's a know it all or a snob, or someone who always has to have the last word in an argument.
Do we genuinely have to ruin every single term we come across??? Like beta, alpha, and sigma. Those are GREEK letters in the GREEK alphabet. Rizz meant charisma. Who even knew what fanum tax was or was meant to mean?? But like. We're using other words correctly like slop and aura. But now, like always, we have to redefine words that DON'T need redefining? Ok. Coolio.
But really that's all. If I could make a video about this I probably would, honestly. Because it just upsets me. I guess you could say I took the rage bait hook, line, and sinker or whatever that fishing phrase is.
That's all!!!
