All my life, I have enjoyed nothing more than writing. Of course, I've spent the last 40+ years doing anything but writing. All that time, I described myself as an "aspiring writer." That's a great sounding way of saying I was a writer who wasn't writing anything. That's not entirely true. I have several mostly inactive blogs where I did some non-fiction posting, but I kept falling into the trap of posting other peoples writing and multimedia-with attribution, of course-just to keep my post count up. But the truth is I did not have enough confidence in my writing to post original work regularly. There I go again, using a bland excuse to say I was too lazy to do it.
So what changed? My grandson. Bitten by the writer bug, he has been asking me for my advice, which I was happy, of course, to give. You know, simple things like write every day, it doesn't matter what you write, do it. Exercise your creativity, develop good writing habits, be consistent - all those things I wasn't doing. So I decided to start taking my own advice.
So here we are. A sixty-six-year-old grandpa still working full time with no prospect of retirement in the near-or even not so near future. Who knows? Maybe I finally will write that great American novel. I feel like I am just beginning this journey at this late stage in life, and I want to invite you along for the ride, dear reader, and we shall explore and learn together.
