I am a proud Boomer who has always written and never done anything with my writing. I am starting my Bucket List with #1-Get my writing read. Sounds doable before I kick the bucket, but "the best laid plans"... I like scriptwriting, because I am a Classic Hollywood fanatic and pretty much live in front of my television. I have written some fan fiction over the years, but find it frustrating that they are not my characters.
Recently I have finished a short story and it went so fast and so well that I think I am going to expand it into a novel. I am not a reader. I was when I was younger, B.C. (before cable), but I am addicted to the CRT. I think novelist should be readers, but hopefully I can write something without reading a lot of other authors. I did read a new novel in preparation for expanding this story and I HATED IT! I liked the beginning and the premise, but the ending seemed so out of nowhere and so depressing with murders and the least likeable characters winning out in the end. Just hated it that ending and I felt cheated because the Protagonist who I had invested some feeling to, turned out to be The Devil. I have got to read something sweet and funny to get this book out of my head.
My life is pretty boring. I live alone, except for my cat, Buddy. I work a really boring, part-time job, but I can write there and use the computer and the boss doesn't mind. I've recently given up something that consumed my life since I was 11 years old--dieting. It's amazing how much time I spent writing about what I ate and how I felt about my weight for the last 50 years! I could have written 20 novels.
Good luck to all with your writing.
