And to answer, continuing the book you'll see that the Reader- not only fears for the reactions of others, not only doesn't wish to speak about HOW it came to happen (which meant risking to let their guardian know about the Scarabia overblot...) but they're also afraid of the necklace being taken away and leaving them unable to protect the students, especially now that they're able to hear and perceive more when things are going wrong. ^^
