Dial-Up7

not important so I'm not announcing, but I did get stung by a bee on my right thumb, thankfully not in the center. I honestly just wanted to post about it because I've literally never been stung before, at least not from what I can remember.

To put it in words, it was VERY shocking. The initial pain felt really gross and uncomfortable, though that could've just been me feeling the bug-guts—which I will apologize for. Unfortunately it was night so I couldn't see them—it was like touching a searing hot pan. Like a searing hot pan, the aftereffect is a whole lot of tingling and burning. Weirdly, my thumb feels both hyper-sensitive and numb? Oh and of course there's the swelling.

Don't think I'm allergic to bee stings, thankfully. It's been about an hour since it's happened. Other than what I described and some lightheaded-ness + sweating, nothing much. So I'm not going to die, yay! I'd say my only concern is that the swelling might be restricting blood-flow to the thumb? Because every now and then it does feel like there's rubber bands in certain spots. Hopefully that doesn't become an issue, but I will look out for it.

Hey guys, update! I'm doing alright, still struggling with my sleep schedule but it's STARTING to come around. It only took like- several weeks and a doctor's appointment in the morning to get me to focus. I don't know why I do this to myself...

I'm slowly working on the book. I'm taking great care to plot things out and have a time-line, so the writing doesn't fly off the rails. Going good so far!

Smaller update to my previous statement on the Last Act.
Yeahhh I'm gonna be real with you, it definitely could've been better. Looking back on it now, I DO think they did a great job. However, the argument about Jax being "the favorite" does ring true personally.

I've been hoping this isn't bias, but I'm pretty sure it only feels like that because the major plotline focuses around Caine and the relationship the humans have with him. I'll admit, as a Caine lover who wants his flaws to actually be recognized and handled properly, seeing it kind of just... shoved under the rug is disheartening.

The more I saw Jax while watching the premiere, it left a sour taste in my mouth. I was expecting REAL SHIT to start, I was expecting plot to tie itself up. After everyone beat her walls down with the Power of Friendship, Caine shows up on screen, speeds through the whole thing, and SOMEHOW gains access to the internet? And through the internet he magically understands them better, without talking to them? And they just...?

FORGIVE HIM?! NO TROUBLE?! NOT HOLDING HIM ACCOUNTABLE? YAYYY EVERYONE'S HAPPY NOW LIKE-...

I still really like the finale, but I do think it has a number of issues. I hope to touch upon those with what I'm working on. My intent isn't to "fix" it, but do the best that I can with more attention to detail on the intricacies of such a conflict. Methinks his return should be like- half the stuff I'm seeing on Ao3. There's LEVELS to this you can't just bring him back without establishing rules and settling the elephant in the room of him being Confused As Fuck.

I did like though the Caine scenes of him slowly realizing what he did was wrong and he brought himself back to the circus. That was such a cool art and animation right there! Especially with like the glass shattering and stuff like that, that was incredible

@Dial-Up7 I agree! The art style of tadc is so wonderful and over the years have improved so much too. I wish it did have a better outcome too. Especially with Caine like apologizing and more dept with that rather then just being like "it's okay man!" Lol. And I do agree, the main plot is the most important piece. Especially in indie animation or storyline writing.

So cool that Jax is canonically trans! I was honestly thinking she was transmasc at first, what with the fear of being perceived as feminine. But honestly I think that can go both ways. I'm sure they tried to include as much of the main plot line as they could what with the Jax lore, but it still wasn't enough for it to feel narratively satisfying in my opinion. I think The Amazing Digital Circus is a very important cornerstone of internet history, and we can all learn a lot from it. Both the good and bad!

Emotionally, I guess I'm not too phased by her abstracting, but I can appreciate how she was given a look into her mind before it happened. I'm not opposed to Jax receiving so much screen-time and attention. If anything, I WANT all of the characters to have their spot light, but when you're working with only nine episodes, each being 50 to 60 minutes and the money isn't infinite, you've gotta prioritize the important things. Namely, the main plot.

I've also heard people talking about the chekov's[?] guns that didn't go to use and... yeah that also really bothers me too. It felt like the mystery was BUILDING to something which is something I really liked about early TADC. Point being, I love this show but I do wish it could've had a better outcome. Mostly story-wise, the artistry is INCREDIBLE.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET! I'm going to write my thoughts down below. I haven't fully gathered my bearings but I took a long shower and ruminated on some things.

Again, SYNTHESIZE will live on in our hearts... It'll be referenced probably, have pieces of it and the many iterations of it thrown around in there. But gosh am I getting starry-eyed for this new story! I want to do the best I can with the things I have learned, personal-wise and canon TADC wise. I know what I have to do now. Mostly... We never stop learning, after all! I plan to make this the last one though I PROOOOMISE.

If I can't see this through, I'll probably move on to my OC's story and other things. I don't really like making multiple, short fan fictions about the same media. I tend to make ONE BIG THING with everything that I want in it. Unless if I have a surplus of ideas, but I don't know how far my interest in TADC will extend. That being said, thank you so much for the support on SYNTHESIZE! It means a lot to have people along for the ride.

If I go with a slow-burn, I can more accurately portray the sheer emotional confusion of not understanding how the fuck you feel about someone, which I think will be very cathartic and funny. Also, I'm thinking of making the reader a shape-shifter, perhaps? I love the idea of reader being so terrified of the situation that they play a game of prop-hunt and pretend the accidental transformations are a shape-shifting animal that Caine spawned in for shits and giggles. Buuuut we'll see if that goes anywhere.

So my solution was to bring Caine and the reader into the circus, but maaan that just feels really round-about... CONVOLUTED. EVEN! It'd just feel really clunky and odd, and more like a shit-post. Like a crack-fic than anything. "Hey so I'm actually not from the Macro-verse, but from a universe really similar to yours just that there's none of the C&A stuff and everything that's happened in this circus has actually been a 3-D animated show on YouTube. Oh yeah, by the way. You know that teeth guy who tortured you and unintentionally caused more harm than good to all of the residents of this place? Well I actually talked to him and it turns out that he's sorry for all of that and he's going to do better now. Oh yeah he's my boyfriend too!" But I started out with the fic being serious, and I don't want to make a crack-fic unless I am intending for it AND HAVE THE TIME, ENERGY AND MOTIVATION TO WHEN I CAN MAKE THE ACTUAL REAL DEAL. YA KNOW? Making fics takes time, and I'd rather not go through with an idea that I failed to see the bigger picture on. I would much rather start with a clean slate, with NO MORE FUTURE EPISODES TO RET-CON ANYTHING!

Anyway, my experience writing that detective book, SYNTHESIZE and something that I'm working on the in the background [oc stuff] has taught me an incredibly useful lesson. I Need. To Look. Ahead. OTHERWISE something like SYNTHESIZE can happen. It has the passion, but I was going into it without enough planning and thinking on like- how all of it actually works. Not even mentioning that I want to flesh out the character relationships better, the overall arc of things. I did have a plot, but the issue is that I made it far too late into development and now I want to work with what I know.

Anyway, there's a lot of ramifications that Episode 9 has on the trajectory of SYNTHESIZE. But like- I kind of need to pull all of that shit together first. Just know that I am going to keep writing, but SYNTHESIZE miiight have to be cancelled and repurposed for the older idea I had. Before Episode 8, I had the idea of an in-circus X Reader [not that I really understood how I felt towards him at the time, it was going to be platonic.] but I scrapped it for five iterations of SYNTHESIZE, the latest being the one that'd see the light of day.

Knowing what I know now, I feel like I can do much better, and I'm not really liking how I'm writing Caine and I think it'd be fun to return to the idea of post-Episode 9 WITH the knowledge that I have now. That isn't to say that SYNTHESIZE is going entirely unused though! I plan to scrap as much as I can from it, but the plot will be much different.

And besides, I much prefer slow-burn and SYNTHESIZE was NOT going to be a slow-burn man... Caine was much too mentally unstable to not fall in love immediately with the littlest affection. Don't worry! Obsession and touch-starved-ness will still be included, but I want to learn how to write post final act Caine, because MAN did it show me a lot and I feel like there's a lot more potential there.

There is also the issue of SYNTHESIZE's plot originally being a simple: "Once you go in, you can't get back out" like with the Circus, and how Caine and you would be in the real world permenantly. But then, half-way through I had an epiphany of like... "Dude Caine can't die of old age, that'd be a REALLY unsatisfying and lame ending, right?"

@shyskittygirl I like herons, egrets, bitterns, and woodpeckers! I love them all so much that it's hard to really pick favorites, but I especially like the Great Blue Heron and Pileated Woodpecker.
