          I'm starting to write another story and I wanted to hear your thoughts on the verb tense. Do you prefer reading a story in the past tense or in the present tense?
          
          Past: He tried to avoid the incoming blow, but the fist succeeded in breaking his defense, sending him flying. His body was in pain and his mind was starting to weaken, but he forced his legs to move toward his foe.
          
          Present : He tries to avoid the incoming blow, but the fist succeeds in breaking his defense, sending him flying. His body is in pain and his mind is starting to weaken, but he forces his legs to move toward his foe.
