Just saw the news regarding "Just Stop Oil" and Vincent Van Gogh's priceless painting "Sunflowers".
I, for one, am glad the two women were arrested, even though the painting itself was, thankfully, unharmed, due to the protective glass.
They glued themselves to a wall, and threw tomato soup at a piece of art history.
They caused property damage, end of.
There are better ways of garnering attention for the very good cause and beliefs they hold, and this was a lazy way of doing it that only made people angry.
Why try to destroy something beautiful with no link to your cause? Why distract people from the real problem by pulling a stunt like this?
And yes, I call it a stunt, because that's all it was at the end of the day. A temper tantrum to gain political attention.
This is NOT a way to show others that climate change needs to be taken seriously, along with the outragious inflation of our economy and lack of universal healthcare.
This is the same group who also glued themselves to a road and wasted precious time and resources of emergency services to try and safely remove the glue and get them out of harms way.
Who knows just how many people ACTUALLY needed life saving assistance, while they were "demonstrating" for a good cause.
I can't speak for the entirity of the "Just Stop Oil" movement, but I can say that if I were a part of the group, I would be extremely disaapointed and heartbroken that these misguided members were conducting themselves so poorly.
Vincent Van Gogh wasn't a rich man, he had no good standing reputation among his peers.
He was like many of us, facing mental illness, poor of health and wealth, with no one to support him other than a brother who didn't have the power to help him like he needed to be helped.
Even the mental health system that was in place failed him.
In trying to destroy his artwork, they are shooting themselves in the foot in the biggest way.
