not exactly the characters you play in the game can obtain these animal or object themed costumes based on the entities that you see in the game that grant the player different abilities. Some examples are acro-bat a bat themed costume that grants the player to attack in a fashion similar to sonic hedgehog homing attack, another is gear prince a robot looking costume that allows the player to interact with these gear stations to ether open doors or move platforms to progress. And some costumes are just for traversal such as air cat a cat costume that grants the player to walk across the air for a few steps after jumping. Lastly there are situational costumes like chrono bunny a clock and bunny costume that lets you go through special mirror gates that stop time when you pass through and prevents the player from being frozen by enemies that mess with time. The player can only hold 3 costumes at a time and if you take damage you lose the costume you Took damage in. The checkpoints act as changing booths to switch up the 3 they have for others they collected or replace the one they lost. Some of the costumes have similar abilities but some are an improvement on another, an example is the double jumper and the triple jumper both are imp looking costumes , one allows to double jump the other to triple jump. And one last thing if playing in co-op mode you can link up with the other player and combine the abilities of the costumes that there using, an example would be air cat’s traversing air steps with acro-bat’s homing attack. I know that there are some videos on YouTube that shows all the costumes in the game to get an idea on their abilities and looks but I’m not sure about videos on the linking of 2 costumes abilities .
