speak clearly ── what exactly were your intentions in breaking into my home? did you expect to find me unaware, or were you simply foolish enough to believe you could leave unscathed?

ushered into the room through the window he entered was a breeze. however wet & clawing the breeze may have been, ily'm minded it not. he did watch the breeze as it caressed this stranger before him. as it were that he was scrutinised, examined perhaps, ily'm returned the favour by running sharp, dark eyes along the planes of the other's form. he found naught in the man's apparel nor within his features. it struck him as odd, this finding. many people were easy to dissect & study. not him.

ily'm, now stood with his hands clasped behind his back, lowered his head slightly & listened to the other speak. "however much you expenses on my belongings means nothing to me," he raised his head once more and took, ever cautious, a solitary step forward. "it was stolen from me. many centuries ago now and it happens to hold great significance to me. i went through a spectacular amount of trouble to find this artifact and it led me to you. you haven't sold it, have you?"

the soft sill of the window provided a beautiful night view, left ajar to let in just enough of a breeze that it grazed his cold cheekbones and tousled brown locks. he turned slowly, shifting his weight to lean against the edge of the sill. where normal humans might panic and cause a frantic commotion, rurik remained as still as ever, his earlier words lingering in the air like a tainted warning. now, he observed the other man through a dark, calculating gaze, raking over him with leisurely scrutiny, silently assessing the motive behind the carefully crafted response he had offered.

“what could i have possibly taken that belongs to another man? but you’re no ordinary man, are you?” an unimpressed brow arched meaningfully as his deep, baritone voice resonated through the space, each word articulated with precision. “i pay a handsome price for each artifact i find.”

you could never understand the heartbeat of a dead heart, let alone the anguish buried within it ── immortal.

it was not an uncommon thing for the vampire to stumble upon a blighted soul. on many occasions, he would feed from these souls — the blood would be bitter, almost marinated in the turmoil. a decadent delight. those days, however, were far behind him. not an inkling of violence came to mind. no, instead, he felt rather... intimidated. there he stood, with no means to protect himself should this man attempt something. weary & worn from nearly a fortnight's worth of travelling, the vampire resigned to the man's inspection of his person. no, he was in no mood for arguments.

"teodorescu, ily'm. my business here is simply to meet a colleague and rest for the night. you must understand, i am very tired, arkadaşım." the cold in the man's voice seemed to have been ignored, though the vampire did take notice. he could sense it though, this man's uneasiness & despite his exhaustion, he managed a kindly smile. long, pristine canines sat alongside yet a smaller set of canines, all pressing against his lip as his smile pulled somewhat tiredly on his features.

"i will only stay the night. i have the means to do so, here—" he presented the other with his wallet, enough money to spend the night & then some, then stowed the wallet in his heavy, dark coat. "may i enter?"

as if staring into a mirrored reflection, glinting eyes met his own with an expression the reaper was sure he’d hidden well. approaching with the unnerving stillness that often unsettled humans, he stopped just an inch from the vampire. gloved hands reached out, though they never made contact, merely hovering as he inspected for weapons or anything that could inflict harm. finding nothing, a brief sense of relief washed over him, though caution remained intact.

“name and business for entering the continental hotel?” his voice came out like ice, a cold ripple cutting the space between them. it wasn’t truly his concern what this man was doing here, least of all his worries, but something inside urged him to send the vampire away, to ensure he never set foot inside the luxurious hotel reserved for only the most elusive, bloodthirsty deeds of humanity.

the vampire eyed the other, brows stiffened. slowly, as to not excite the other, he raised both his hands. clean. not a blemish. stood open, unarmed & vulnerable — the vampire felt something quite strange. a semblance perhaps, of kinship. of shared strife. who was this man and what exactly was he planning to do?
