It's national vegetarian week! Here are some things you can do to celebrate***:
1. Start doing a meatless Monday (or any day of the week)
2. Try to go vegetarian this week
3. Stop eating red meat
4. Go vegetarian!
5. Buy a vegetarian/vegan cookbook to inspire you!
6. Research where you get your meat and dairy to make sure you aren't supporting factory farms. Try and buy local!
7. Only take what you can eat. Wasting food, especially meat, as well as being disrespectful to the animal that died for the meat, pollutes. A lot.
Being vegetarian/vegan is one of the biggest ways to reduce your carbon footprint, with the meat industry causing deforestation, polluting the land air and water, and releasing greenhouse gasses into the air. Not to mention most farms are inhumane and cruel to the animals raised. Reducing the amount of meat you eat, no matter how you do it, is valid and helpful. Please do what you can, if you can.
We have two articles about this with a lot of information about it and what you can do! It's called "The Meat Industry" and "The Meat Industry-revised"!
***Of course, if you aren't able to make changes regarding your diet please don't feel pressured to. It's important to recognize that going vegetarian, vegan, or making any changes to your diet is something only people with privilege can do. Don't feel bad if you can't make these changes!
