"My task which I am trying to achieve is, by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel---it is, before all, to make you see. That---and no more, and it is everything. If I succeed, you shall find there, according to your desires, encouragement, consolation, fear, charm, all you demand---and, perhaps, also that glimpse of truth for which you have forgotten to ask."
--Joseph Conrad
Hey, I'm Geoff, I write every once in a while. I write the kind of stuff that I'd want to read. I particularly like fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and fantasy, and sometimes write within those genres. A lot of my works on here are vignettes and glimpses into much bigger stories, and focus more on emotion and feeling than on plot.
My life has essentially been a love affair with reading. My favorite authors are Ray Bradbury, Jack Kerouac, Thomas Wolfe, Joseph Conrad, and Virginia Woolf. Their highly impressionistic and lyrical voices are my favorite voices in all of literature.
I'm also deeply influenced by and in love with the autobiographical tradition of Marcel Proust, Thomas Wolfe, Jack Kerouac, and Knausgaard. Please go read these guys, they are phenomenal.
I'm also a huge fan of William Faulkner, Walt Whitman, James Joyce, Neil Gaiman, Shirley Jackson, Lord Dunsany, Cormac Mccarthy, Charles Frazier, Dan Chaon, Steven Millhauser, Sherwood Anderson, Stephen Crane, H.P. Lovecraft, Charles Williams, Jack London, Markus Zusak, and many, many others. If you want to read some amazing stuff, go to a library and check out these guys rather than read my stories. GO READ. Faulkner once said "Read read read. Read everything--trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it". And he's 100% right. Go read poetry, read biographies, read articles, read comics, read novels, read whatever you can get your hands on. Reading, aside from writing, is the only thing you need to do to learn how to be a writer.
