Elbert comes from a long line of leadership and lived experiences. During Elbert's childhood, he not only spent 21 years in Kentucky's foster care system, but also faced many of his own behavioral health challenges. He started his leadership and advocacy journey as a member of Fostering Goodwill, a non-profit organization based out of Lexington, KY which aims to improve resources for transition age foster youth. He served on the Voices of the Commonwealth Council, a council comprised of 14-25 year olds who are Alumni of Kentucky's Foster Care system. As Kentucky's first FosterClub AllStar, Elbert was trained nationally on youth-driven initiatives and later went on to serve as a Level 2 intern where he mentored and trained other up-and-coming young leaders from across the nation. During his time with FosterClub, Elbert completed and provided training on issues surrounding Foster Youth and Psychotropic medication. Elbert has served on the National Foster Care Youth and Alumni Policy Council.
