It can be worth it. There are plenty of different stories to enjoy, some good, some bad, but most modern SCP can be rather large. If you enjoy horror ranging from body to demons to, well, anything under the sun it can be entertaining to read into it. Personally I'm not deeply in touch with the fan base so I can't say how toxic it is. But there are discord channels you can join such as The Volgun who is a youtuber who has been reading off scp articles for years now and is a veteran of the fandom. You can find a link to his discord usually under his video descriptions. However, there has been drama in the fandom. For instance recently Dr. Bright has been removed due to the man behind him getting... in trouble, the way most celebrities get cancelled with talking to too young of fans. People can't distinguish between characters and the person behind them so... they were removed from the site except their original scp entry, people even trying to rename him. The original man behind Kondraki also left, but mostly because the fandom took a turn he did not like, wanting it more his way from my understanding as he liked the old silly version of SCP instead of the more serious direction.
