For the first time in my life - or at least since college - I find myself unemployed. It is a little startling, even if a reality of my own choosing. And, yes, I understand that is the pinnacle of privilege. I also understand it is a temporary reality. After all, my savings will only take me so far.

The decision, which was weeks in the making, ultimately arrived as I was revisiting a training at my company. I couldn't see my work experience in what was presented in relation to diversity. The values presented in that training weren't what were on display in my day-to-day life, and it was getting worse. After a quick text conversation with my spouse, I submitted my resignation.

It was like coming home, taking off your shoes and immediately knowing they were too small. It mattered very little if the shoes had shrunk or the feet had expanded. The relief was the same.

So, I find myself with the luxury of time. Time to explore and experiment. Time to find that elusive passion so many discuss. I hope I'm brave enough to see it through.
