(no one asked for this but i spent so much time on putting it together so please read it)
Do you wanna know the story of St. Valentine before Valentine's day? He was a man who was executed on February 14, around the year 269 AD.
He was actually a priest and Saint in the early Christian Church who was doing weddings that were, you guessed it, Christian, despite the Romans who were known for the persecution of Christians (they all died for their faith happily, don't worry they did have a choice).
While there are various versions of the history, I will give you the long story short and say that he was known for performing secret weddings for many young couples even though the emperor at the time (Claudius II) had banned it.
These marriages were seen as rebellious acts of defiance against the Roman Empire.
He died a martyr (means killed because of your faith. Usually it happens when someone refuses to change their values and religion even in the face of death), and Valentine's day is the day that millions of Christians around the world remember how important the sacrament and institution of marriage is, as well as what real love is.
Valentine's day is so widespread that most of the world recognizes this day as a celebration of love, which comes in many forms, the purest of all being a selfless act for another.
He is known for the letter he wrote to the jailer’s daughter, who he had a close friendship with, which he signed, “from your Valentine” before his death. Which started the tradition that everyone knows.
Also sorry if this isn't clear, just shoot a question at me and I'll try to answer as well as I can.
I don't bite <3
