Hi! I'm Livvi.
Thanks so much for your comment on my story, 'Handcuffs, Kisses and Awkward Situations'. To answer your question as to why I categorised my story as a mystery novel, it was a selection of reasons. Originally, the novel was under humour and teen fiction. Back then, the book was half the size it is now. I initially planned for the whole story to be written in Nora's perspective; a fun, lighthearted read. But when readers suggested adding more, I included Ryder's part. His half of the story was a lot messier. His included the complications within the plot and the resolution. As I was writing, I included more emphasis on the fire which lead to a more mysterious vibe as readers tried to guess who the culprit was.
When I finished writing, I wanted to enter into the Watty Awards, but when the categories were shown, I noticed that humour, my dominant genre, wasn't included (a genre I entered in last year). That left teen fiction, but that wasn't included either. I was then left with Adventure and Mystery-- two sub categories that I thought suited my novel. I actually contacted Wattpad about this and when an administrator replied back, he told me to think of plots like Indiana Jones to see if my story would fit Adventure. I didn't think it matched very well, so I selected Mystery.
This is, like, a whole essay, so I'm sorry for this! But I wanted to answer your question since you took the time to ask it. :)
Have a lovely day and thanks for reading!
