So in celebration, here is the beginning of chapter 1 to 'Running Circles' which will be coming out January 24th 2015.
Chapter 1:
Expending a lot of energy but achieving nothing. When you run in circles, you finish exactly where you started.
And that how it was, wasting energy chasing after something that gets you no where.
Here, let me approach this a different way... it's like when you wake up late for school and you're running after the bus. You know that bus is long gone, yet you still try, because just like everyone else, there's that small sliver of hope, that your plan will work.
And that small sliver of hope was in me too. Mine may not be hoping the catch some bus, but hoping to catch someone's eye. More specific, Matt's eye.
Matt was easy to say, popular. He played on the soccer team and had brown hair and eyes. He was nice and had girls flocking around him, girls much prettier than me.
Well when I say that I mean by high school standards. I was average, brown hair and blue-green eyes. But their were girls here who even though the dress code said they couldn't they wore crop tops and shorts both not covering much, wore way too much makeup for school, and weren't afraid of putting themselves out there.
I was not any of those three. It was fall here in Minnesota, so highs were 60°F and lows were about 40°F. So instead of making myself freeze I wore dark boot cut jeans, a sweatshirt with a team name I don't know on it, and knock off Ugg boots. The only makeup I wore was a little mascara and maybe eye liner if I had time. For boys if you haven't already guessed, I wasn't a natural.
Sometimes I felt like some girls had a guidebook on boys memorized, there were some working at it, and then there was me, given the 1000+ page guidebook to boys, in Chinese, with only twenty minutes to look at it.
