I told some stories to my kids when they were young ("Chef Nathan and Wicked King Paprika"). After a bunch of years teaching college, I decided that that's not what I wanted to be when I grew up. I did some IT stuff for a number of years and now am working mostly on my story-telling. 

Mostly crime-detection-mystery. With characters forced by the crime to think about big issues. Also some western romance just for fun. And I'm working on a longer collection of related stories, _Maasdam Murder & More_.
