Modern language has altered it's meaning to be more offensive and classified as a "swear word" but it's origins aren't like that at all. I really hate it when overtime language twists words to mean something they aren't. We can see this a lot, like the word "awful" we use to mean horrible or bad, but it's origins are "worthy of awe." Over the years people have changed it, and now people just think it means the opposite of its old meaning. The same goes for the word ass. We've changed the meaning to be much more offensive and rude, and we censor it a lot more, when before it'd be equivelent to calling someone foolish or ignorant.
