Once upon a time... that's how every good fairy tale must begin, there lived a girl who despised the written word.
She loved dancing and fairy-tale-spinning, and pretend-playing, but never words. Not one. She was cursed, this maiden, with an evil, wicked curse. We shall call him Laziness.
Every day without fail he lied to the girl. He said that she would never be anything, that she couldn't do anything worth while because he would always be there to stop her.
The lady believed him, thus she tried to ignore him, to pretend he didn't exist at all. She was in a prison without bars but the ones she created for herself.
Through a bizarre turn of events it so happened that the maiden was forced to read a book. She perused the library looking for anything worth wasting her time on. All seemed to be lost until she found one book. It had a pale blue cover, and soft cream pages, more than she had ever dreamed of reading!
The story was about a girl who wanted desperately to be a princess.
The tale pierced deeply into her soul. All of her stories, all of the tales she had dreamed up without words begged to be written. They pounded against her and pushed at her fingers to grasp a pen and free them from their cages.
The maiden could not resist them. Soon she was writing and reading and weaving a spell. Her old nemesis Laziness was soon forgotten and without him the world was bright and beautiful and something worth telling.
And so she did.
