@lilyNotMyRealName Because a lot of people saw that identity and it resonated with them in some way. Nonbinary genders have existed for such a long time. They exist in almost every ancient culture, for example the native Americans, (who still exist, not to make it seem like they have all died) have people who conform to neither binary gender and have specific roles in society. So it has existed for a long time. I hope this answered your question
