My favorite books tend to explore the gray areas between good and evil. Sometimes, what appears to be good isn't always truly good, and what seems evil isn't always truly evil. Sometimes, evil is misunderstood, and sometimes, what is considered good isn't always the good you expect. I really enjoy that aspect. Depending on how it's written, I also like the basic trope where it’s pretty clear who the good and evil characters are, depending on the story.

Across some of my favorite series like A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, The City of Brass, A Darker Shade of Magic and Empire of Silence good and evil are never simple opposites - they’re fluid, culturally shaped, and deeply personal. Each series shows that morality depends on perspective: every faction believes it’s justified, and centuries of trauma, conflict and injustice drive people to choices that look heroic to some and monstrous to others.
Characters themselves embody this ambiguity. Protagonists like Feyre, Aelin, Nahri, Kell, and Hadrian are both protectors and destroyers, forced to make painful decisions in systems already scarred by oppression or war. Villains often after from loyalty, loss, or survival rather than pure malice. Redemption is possible, but always imperfect.
Magic reflects this same neutrality. It’s not good or evil on its own it simply amplifies the user’s intent. Power does not corrupt by nature, it reveals.
Ultimately I think my favorite series frame morality not as a destiny or purity but a continuous choice.

@Fantasy Based on my favourite fantasy book, it showed that good vs. evil isn’t about light or darkness, but about how people use the power they’re given. Characters who look “dangerous” can still choose kindness, and those who seem noble can hide the deepest corruption. In other words, it’s the choices—not the magic—that define who’s truly good or evil. :)

@Fantasy By the light of day and the darkness of night, only colours can return such sight. With a bit of green, the pastures shall roll, with a dash of blue, the sky shall unfold. But too much darkness and evil will gain, or too much light and the balance can't be maintained. Let red scorch the hearts of those that seek to fight. Let brown harvest the soils where the dead will rise. In this I carve a stone set for only one to find, if ever such imbalance shall rewind. This stone shall grant them the colours of the world, in which they will use to bring balance or see it unfurl.

@Fantasy In the name of Thor and Odin! With the potency of a dragon's scale and a vampire's fang, with the power of the blood of gods and sea foam, add the song of a siren's soul and the breeze from a faerie's wing, add the longevity of a heart of stone and the flames from a phoenix's feather, add the darkness of a black mushroom and the tartness of a winter apple. I call on the power of Thor and Odin and the power of the spell invoked to give me infinite speed, strength, patience and fortitude. I call this spell the 'Fortitude of Divinity'.

@Fantasy - Wholly captivated by the sight of the green pearl, its emanating glow betraying the malevolent energy contained within, Cyrus decided murder would be the price to pay to make it his own.

@Fantasy I feel like these would play out to a forbidden love or a magical scene (and maybe one of them is a world's rebirth, but idk)

@ Fantasy Mr Kleks' Academy (or Mister Blot"s Academy as I now see in google) is actually based on a novel by Jan Brzechwa - famous Polish poet and author. It's a story of a boy who finds himself in a mysterious school ran by an eccentric director where the students have many, often scary, adventures and learn about weaving from letters, treating magical equipment if it's sick, creating stories from ink and many other strange things... :)

@Fantasy Fairycore is what I like. So my kind of fantasy setting is like in The Cruel Prince or ACOTAR.
