PFA contestants: please read till the end, so you know not to worry ;)
This might sound a little impulsive, but when it comes to writing, I know what I want and what I stand for, so I've really thought this through.
I'm going to delete all my Wattpad stories. I was so excited to share my new story, but the new take on generative AI is an absolute deal-breaker for me. For those who don't know, the rules for the Wattys just came online, and I was really excited because this would be the first year I would compete with my first full-length novel, but the open acceptance of AI usage has changed my mind. Yes, I know they still discourage it, but let's be honest, it's little acceptance now, what will it be next year? Do we realise this means that some Watty winners could actually be writers who used generative AI for their work?
I'm fully aware that only about a half percent of the people on this platform will agree with me, but generative AI should absolutely not be used, whether it is for writing, edits, or research. Take your time, rent a dictionary, do your research yourself, read a book, go to forums, educate yourself, ... What's the point if you don't do your work yourself anymore? People really think they're "smart enough" to use AI and still be creative, but really, that's impossible. I already had someone insult me multiple times for just laying this out so I won't go into detail any further, but I just wanted to clarify why I'm going to leave soon.
PFA contestants, don't worry! The awards are still going! I promised you the reads, the prizes and the reviews and I'll deliver ;)
But I'm not writing for Wattpad anymore. It's just not what I stand for anymore. That's a little sad, because I love so many people here. I'll just stay as a reader and supporter of all these amazing writers, but for me, I'll write somewhere else.
I'm not looking for discussions or fights here, just my opinion on the matter.
Have a nice day everyone!
