A little update on SoI:Night, for any curious:
Chapter 11, which I'm gonna write and release ere my break, will pick up (in-universe) around a month after the events of chapter 10. Sun, Maple, and Pale Moon (who suggests now to be called either Emmy or Mona for short) investigate a Lilithian night club called the Temptress, where there's said to be something supernatural luring the unwitting to their demise; a temptress in the Temptress, you could say... Oh, and Gilda is also there. Trouble as always.

This chapter will set the tone for the story going forward - and put Sun in a situation which risks her innocence yet again (wow, it's almost like that's a major theme in the story...). Also, it'll feature - get this - an illustration by me! Nothing spectacular, but I thought I'd mention it; rarely do I get to share my art on here, after all. Kind of wish I'd done some art for the scene between Sun and Smolder last chapter, 'cause honestly that's my favorite scene in the whole story so far! Such a vulnerable little scene. Interested in hearing what you think of it, actually.

Expect chapter 11 to release soon (kind of); just a bit unmotivated to do the actual *writing* part of writing at the moment, y'know that feeling? Whatever. Hope you're excited for a new chapter! It's shaping up to be a fun one!

Hey, guess what's coming out later today unless I get super lazy? SoI:Night chapter 10! Expect a bit of a tonal shift, albeit an intentional one. Being a tenth chapter, this will be the climax of the story arc - and the end of the story for now until I finish SoI2. Won't take too long. But! I may write chapter 11 before I go on my break of sorts, just because I want to write more of SoI:Night's characters. You know me, I'm indulgent!

Enjoy this (hopefully sufficiently) conclusive tenth chapter; I feel I've hit a stride with it! Oh, and since it's kind of the end for now, feel free to tell me what you think of the story, if anything!

Feenfiction

Little bit of news (but mostly rambling; reading beyond the first paragraph is optional):
I may slow development of SoI:Night chapters after I release the tenth - the finale of sorts to the story's first arc. I've got something crazy in mind for that, by the way, so get excited! But after that? I've no clue. I'm quite frankly unsure where the story can afterwards go besides Sun generally living, and getting to know the strange group of people she's met last chapter. Open to suggestions...!

My reason for temporarily stilling the writing progress of the story - other than not knowing as of yet how I can make it interesting for you, the reader - is because I have to finish SoI2. The thing is... I don't really want to. Still so many things I feel I can do with the vast cast I've built up. But I can admit that I'm no longer interested in MLP. Still a great comfort show, though, but I digress. Ending Songs of Innocence almost feels like saying goodbye to a friend... who leaves you with a bunch of horse-terminology knowledge. Never thought I'd care to know what a canter is, but here we are. Anyways.

SoI1 was a story about innocence battling malice. SoI2 is shaping up to be a story about death, and how it affects how we live and cherish the gift of life. I mean, Sun dies at the end (surely), but even knowing that she has to die, she knows she's lived her life well. Ironically, she's accepting the oncoming end better than I am. But come on, how am I supposed to top SoI1's finale? If you know, you know that finale was NUTS. Planet-shattering monstrosities, dead-faced eldritch lords, throwing the sun at someone...! I'm building something opposing to that - in the same vein yet not repetitive. But leading up to that... well, it's hard knowing how to spend your time when you know it's limited, isn't it?

Just wanted to get that out. I know barely anyone will read this but that's whatever. Expect chapter 9 of SoI:Night to release soon...-ish.

Feenfiction

Hey guys, just need some feedback really quick...
So, teensy bit of (necessary) spoilers, but in the current chapter of SoI:Night I'm writing, Sun has to trudge through a gauntlet of inner terrors given form. From bizarre fairies to delusions of obscure angels, Sun has to overcome a number of surreal entities looking to lead her further astray. I plan to include a prominent monster for Sun to fight - like a boss in a video game. I have a number of ideas for it, but I can't choose, so please tell me which, if any of these, sounds the most interesting. Oh, and I'd suggest you imagine each as emerging from the darkness in a lightless void, so hopelessly dark you can hardly make your imagined figure out even as it appears before you to claim your life. Cheery, I know. So, here are what I've thought of:
*A bewilderingly towering faceless figure, taller than any person should normally be
*What I can only really describe as a moving entanglement of knives
*A floating, all-consuming orb of apathy
*A thick swarm of an excessive amount of death-flies
          *Three gigantic vultures stitched together
*A hydra of grabby hands which reach out from the darkness to unconsentingly yank in anything it touches
*A sentient sphere of sentient madness, invisible to the human eye and able to degrade the sanity, to destroy the reason, of any person too near to it
*A half-male, half-female figure, offering the idea of the alchemical union of both genders

As for what meaning these various monsters hold to Sun, I won't say... unless if you wanna interpret it yourself, or if you're curious and wanna ask me directly for the answer, but I digress.
I'd really appreciate some feedback, because I'm indecisive here. So whatever you pick from the selection I've given, if you pick any of them, will be the monster Sun fights (or probably just survives...) in chapter 9!

Feenfiction

@Stonenewouse Alright, thanks very much for the input - the orb of unrelenting apathy, annihilating one's will as it dissolves all it nears, will be the thing Sun must survive in the newest chapter! Hope you look forward to it

If I had to pick, I’d go with the orb of apathy. It sticks to me more

Some SoI: Night news and trivia for all -2 of you who care:
The next chapter follows Sun's descent into hell - at least, an infinite shopping mall bathed in darkness, and hey, isn't the consumerist world we live in the real hell? Anyways... a familiar creepy face from a throwaway joke in SoI1 comes back, because I decided I could definitely do more with her... er, it. You'll see... But yeah, with the current part of the story, with the mythological idea of the sun descending into the underworld, this is the story's darkest part yet (both literally and figuratively), but I assure you that things will get better for poor ol' Sun. She's starting to get herself together, lemme tell you!

Alright, so for some trivia I failed to mention before:
*All of the monsters Sun faces are reflections of her own various fears (no matter how odd or insignificant)
*Capper Mendax (remember him?) was originally supposed to appear again at the end of his debut chapter, helping Sun home - as she gets caught up in another nightmare where towering monsters roam the empty, lightless city. This was to show that Capper somehow knows about what's going on with Sun, but I scrapped that idea... Or maybe not, considering he has that book about the mysterious "box"...
*The band-aid on Sun's nose - as featured in the cover art - is meant to reflect her Equestrian counterpart's blaze (if you don't know horse terms: it's a stripe-like marking on a horse's muzzle)
*Like with her Equestrian counterpart, human Sun is related to Sunburst; I just haven't figured out how to include him yet.
*The "magickal" words Death Drive speaks are Enochian words - got 'em right from my good old Enochian dictionary!
*Gilda might have a little (possibly adopted?) sister named Grizelda
*Sun and Trivia are long lost siblings who recently found each other, but I don't really intend to explain how or when that happened, honestly...
*I joked about it before but I'm serious, Sun genuinely has autism

          Thanks for reading!

Possibly interesting announcement: I might be making a one-shot Doctor Who fanfic - how would you guys feel about that?

Here's the general plot idea: in the far future, on the Starship UK, there's one place no one wants to be... and it's New Smethwick. Actually, it's really "New New Smethwick"; they had to rebuild it twice because of how... unruly... people are there. Turns out, "A Clockwork Orange" was less a dystopian fantasy, and more-so a premonition - a vision into what this dreadful pocket of England now is. And the current incarnation of the Doctor - his eighteenth: a more casual, curious fellow - might have accidentally caused it by letting a special phantasmagoric leech loose in Anthony Burgess' house one day... Whoops. And now the Doctor has to confront the consequences: a crime-filled city of slums that drowns outsiders in slang. It's not the end of the world, though... Besides, there's something lurking around in the shadows that's gonna that job pretty well. So, to find out more about the terrible creature and prevent it bringing ruin, the Doctor teams up with a common teenager Alex DeLarge lookalike - one whom he's nervous to find he's rather fond of...

Even if you're not familiar with Doctor Who, hopefully this story sounds interesting. I put it somewhere that won't conflict with existing DW stuff... yet. At the same time, if I never end up making this, at least I've put this idea for what the concept of the story is, right? Anyways, yeah, let me know what you think!

He-Who-Remembers1

I heard Doctor Who and instantly support this.

Two big things are quickly creeping up on us: 1, my 18th birthday (it's tomorrow, Guy Fawkes' Day!), and 2, SoI: Night's tenth chapter; and if you know me and how I write stories, you'd know that a tenth chapter is the finale to the current arc - it means crazy stuff's gonna go down... and that it's gonna be named after a song.
As for the current chapter, chapter 8, it's shaping up to be a more personal, vulnerable plot focusing on a rather unfortunate development in Sun's life, but it doesn't stay dreary for long. Because things go right... and then wrong. Very wrong. Maple was more important than you'd think... Not to spoil it too much, but... I had this idea I wanted to do for a scene in this chapter, where Sun is looking in the mirror, and then she sees herself - her shadow of sorts - walk into the room. Imagine you seeing another you walk into a room.

Also, just clearing up some stuff... I've written Maple's nature as an unraveling mystery which some characters know more about than we the readers do, but I'm going to just go ahead and state the facts about her, as to avoid confusion. Maple is an Antumbra, a magical creature from the "other world" (Equestria) which latches onto ideas - what-ifs - in people's mind, and embodies them. Their true forms are shadowy and macropodine (meaning, looking vaguely like a kangaroo), but they can take on whatever form suits the idea they're taking from. Maple has taken from Sun's idea of that girl named Maple she once met who may not truly exist. A bit of extra info for those familiar with MLP's lore: Antumbra are a "sister race" of Umbrum like King Sombra (and, if you've read SoI1&2, Avalonia and Nero), being posssibly created from the darkness Despoena. There's also another kind. a "brother race"... but that lends itself to spoilers for SoI: Night, so... just wait, you'll see. For now, though, just know that they function in a similar way to Antumbra, but more... nightmarish. Not fun.

          Thanks for reading so far!

Happy Halloween, everybody! ...Oh, and happy birthday, Ruby Rose of Team RWBY. Alright, I got no candy to give out (because how would I do that? Can't exactly give it to you through your screen!), so instead, have some SoI: Night trivia:
*Before I landed on "Night" as the subtitle for this SoI entry, other ones I considered (all Blakean references, as always with this series) were "Sun-Flower", "the Tyger", and "A Little Girl Lost"
*Sun's favorite song is "Fly Me to the Moon"
*The lullaby Sun sings to herself in Chapter 6 is a reference to SoI1, where Sun's Equestrian counterpart sings it to her future daughter at the very end of the story
*The little symbol on Sun's turtleneck (a triangle with a rainbow-like arch coming out of it) is that of a fictitious fashion brand referenced in all of my stories
*This might someday come up in the story itself, but the reason why Sun loves Doctor Who so much (other than being autistic) is that she used to watch it with her mother, and thus watching it brings her comfort, bringing her back to a simpler time... It's also because David Tennant's hot, no matter who you are.
*Gilda, Fluttershy, and... a certain pale girl... will - or already do, in the first two's cases - represent different kinds of relationships that Sun has, ranging from healthy to... not so healthy. Spoiler alert: Gilda's the bad apple, if you couldn't already tell.
*Finally, Maple's backstory is based on a true story!

SoI: Night's seventh chapter - "Witch Hunting" - is out now, and... if you read it and wonder to yourself if you're reading a completely different story by accident, then 1: I don't blame you, and 2: you're still in fact reading the same story - it's just that you haven't seen anything until now!

Oh, and for SoI2's next chapter: after last chapter's lengthy, albeit unspecified, timeskip, the whole gang meets up on a dazzling beach, just to hang out together... when suddenly, a face from Sun's future appears! If you read the last story, you'll pretty quickly piece together who it is. Can't be bad at making twists when I never claimed to be good at making them in the first place, eh?

Because I've recently overcome some personal troubles, I'm feeling a lot more motivated to write now, and I feel like you'll be able to tell; my writing's got more fluid, and the dialogue (especially in the SoI2 chapter I'm still writing) is noticeably a bit more punchy - so is the action!

Hope you're enjoying the stories so far!

A new SoI: Night chapter, "Chapter 6: A Familiar Stranger" is out! Decided to make this one short and sweet, because I couldn't see a good way to transition it into another scene. Although, next chapter may still take place in the same night... Maybe Sun talks to someone? Goes to a club or something crazy like that? Who knows! ...Well, not me, clearly, but I'll come up with something.

By the way: any thoughts on the story so far? Either good, bad, or in-between - I'd love some feedback! No pressure to say anything if you're reading this, but I'd appreciate it, you know.
