I'm not sure since the only books I've read is the first book, which is City of Bones and City of Heavenly Fire. The show is the exact same thing except they sort of cut out some subtle parts and some other details.

@Dalagang_PIRIpina do the books have different plots than the show or something? if the plots r the same, wat chapter/ book does the show cover until season 1 episode 8?
