So, I’ve been reading a lot of Daredevil comics recently… and I got to say… Silver Age Daredevil is kind of underrated. I get why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. We are ALL, if one knows anything about Daredevil, aware on how dark and gritty Daredevil’s stories can be. The Netflix series took a lot of that and showed a fantastic adaptation of Matt Murdock in the modern era, so even non comic book readers knows how Daredevil is normally perceived these days. And maybe because of that my mind is subconsciously framing the Silver Age Daredevil stories as a look into Matt BEFORE darkness tried to choke his hero career… but using that framing the Silver Age stories become fascinating as a look at who Daredevil was before Fisk became a major player in his life. Before the Hand came in. Before Stick and Elektra walked back into his life. It’s not as gripping as something like the Frank Miller run, but I’ve been hooked since I started reading. Honestly… Silver Age Daredevil is pretty cool. Not as good in my opinion as Miller era DD onwards… but cool nonetheless. I’ve been liking it more than I expected to considering so many Daredevil fans told me I might not like early DD as much for being ‘hokey’… it is… but it’s not bad either. Matt, Karen, and Foggy have interesting dynamics off the jump, some of the early villains actually have potential, and honestly there is some hidden gems in the old Stan Lee run that I think could have worked in the Netflix series with some modern retooling. I get why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s not my favorite take on Daredevil either… but I DO genuinely like it.
