Wattpad actually did it. They deleted ALL messages. I’ve had messages that date back over 7 years saying how they like my writing, and how they’re waiting for my books to be paperback. I used them as motivation when I was sad or have writer’s block. It’s also sad that wattpad just isn’t for small time writers anymore. They have a paid membership, I have to watch ads while reading over my OWN works, and they’re just becoming a publishing company at this point. It’s always a sad day when a nice little app / company sells out.

I took a small wattpad break and came back to….this. My messages I held so near and dear to my heart of friends I didn’t even have around anymore… Breaks my heart.

As a writer myself, watching Wattpad become what it is today broke my heart. I can still remember opening the app and getting messages saying “help keep Wattpad ad free! Donate to help us out!” Now like you said, I can’t even open up my own story without getting flooded with ads. It can often become a buggy mess trying to work between a computer and on the app on the phone. I can still remember the day I opened the app and got my first ad. I was SO mad. And I’ve felt pushed out of a place that used to be my safe haven because like you said, it’s not for small time writers anymore. It’s all big time and no one takes you seriously if you’re not sponsored or something. So frustrating
