Working on Utopia, I’m so excited (and proud), this is probably my favorite part of the story (the end of chapter 2 is also one of my favorites). I just wrote it, hope you like it, please tell me what you think about it. #Utopia #Dystopia #Ember #Jack
[Excerpt from Chapter 4 of Utopia, Page 59]
Hero of the night,
I walked over to her, suddenly forgetting the reason we were here. I glanced at the picture she stopped by, it was a black and white photograph, displaying seven soldiers wearing green and beige army camo.
Hero of the day,
One soldier, off to the right, seemed older than the rest, I noticed a star badge on his chest and guessed that he was their captain. Such a young group, I thought.
Like the sun may you shine,
They looked barely out of college, maybe twenty-five max. Didn’t even get to really live their life.
Your spirit like a light,
I turned my attention to the background of the blurry photo.
Cast the darkness away.
I noticed a shadow in the background.
May the sun light your path,
I closed my eyes, I could look at the picture later.
May our cheers lead the way.
I folded my fists, placing my hand on my left chest.
And our victories give you hope
It was important to remember the fallen, even if you didn’t know them in life.
That you will not be forgotten,
After all it was their life, their strength, that was defending our country. Protecting us from the darkness of the outside world.
But be remembered, every single day.
I closed my eyes tighter, clutching my fists.
“Thank you,” I whispered, reciting the silent prayer in my head.
