Galemeshi is a name that I kept for a friend.
I remember him best sitting at his dad's computer, the bright light sliding down he rims of the glasses' lenses. He often had a wry smile when he was being sarcastic, but on that day he just stared blankly at the screen name I had typed in.
"How do you pronounce that?" He asked me, not turning away.
My eyes floated along the elegant slope that his cheek and chin made, and then I let my vision drop to the floor.
"Gal... em... esh... ee..." I was embarrassed. For weeks I had been mocking myself, thinking, 'this alias is going to get me called a wee-a-boo if I ever use it.'
"I like it," he said.
My heart skipped like a stone over water; I suddenly felt like a dog that had been given a chew-toy. It made me happy. It didn't take long for something typical to come speeding out of my mouth.
"Really?"
"Yeah! It's really unique. And it's got a good sound."
This was a friend of mine. I kept my name for him.
