Hello! @GamingLichdom here!
I recently just got another random idea for a story — not a fanfic, but an original story.
So imagine a female protagonist, pretty normal so far. The character mentions having tragically lost her unborn child a few years before the events of the story. This gets brought up many times throughout each arc, but always in hinted conversation.
Now, let's say this universe has magic.
The magic is linked to the soul, and these souls are created when a new life is born in the womb. Before then? No soul.
Now, the perfect finale to this story?
The perfect Big Bad Villain?
The protagonist's unborn child.
Let's imagine that, in this world, magic can be influenced by emotions and personal connection — when the protagonist lost their child, it was an extremely traumatic events for them and it has stuck with them ever since.
So, the final Big Bad is the remnants (Wraith) of their unborn child. The horrible combination of the protagonist's pain, grief, hatred, and desperation all mixed together into a twisted entity with no soul or humanity — the ultimate tragic Villain.
A being who wishes to exterminate all life in the world because they never had the chance to live. They represent a horrible past that the protagonist could never escape, nor accept, and so they lingered and suffered in a space between life and death.
They reveal themselves at the finale — a towering figure basked in pure blackness, their face a deformed skull with sharp edges, perhaps pieces of their spine poking through their shaded form. Imagine Death from Castlevania.
He comes to face the main heroes for a final showdown. One last confrontation to save all of creation from the manifestation of the protagonist's loss and tragedy.
The name of this Villain?
Umbra.
The shadow of the protagonist — cast from their inner darkness.
The song that inspired this was 'Scylla' from Epic the Musical. More specifically, at the 1:54 point.
Dark, but an incredible twist.
