Ernie plays a key role in Derek’s journey from the very beginning. She’s the only one he trusts with his secret, using her cosplay skills to craft a Sideways suit tough enough to handle his interdimensional travel. When Derek injures his shoulder escaping Tempus Fuginaut, he rifts to her for help, and she quickly gets him to the hospital—only for them both to be caught in Killspeed’s deadly attack. After Derek’s mother dies, he isolates himself, but Ernie refuses to give up on him, confronting his self-destructive behavior. Later, she joins him on a healing trip to Paris, where they cross paths with Leviathan agents. In the finale, Ernie is kidnapped by a mysterious teleporter, forcing Derek to push his powers to the brink to track her down and save her from Bolt.
