Attention all readers! We have some good news and some bad news :( and perhaps a little surprise if you scroll down to the end of this post...

Author: The bad news is that we aren't able to keep the Instagram account up and running anymore. Unfortunately the guinea pig community on Instagram is very small and it seems almost useless to keep both this blog and the instagram account. It felt a bit more like a distraction compared to everything else. Since people go to Wattpad to read articles instead of Instagram there really wasn't any point. The Team is very small and the time we have very limited and we thought that we could perhaps return to the Instagram idea another time. Don't worry, though! This means that there will be more time to tweak, fix and most importantly write more articles!
And now, to the good news.

A brand new bonus article will be added shortly to "Guinea Pigs: THE ULTIMATE HANDBOOK" and it will be called somewhere around the lines of "Fun Facts About Piggies".

It's Christmas soon... activate your piggy senses and find the clues in "Guinea Pigs: THE ULTIMATE HANDBOOK" to find out the special events going on in early December...

@BreadyCodes Hello! So sorry for not being able to reply earlier - yes, here are a few facts :)
          1. Guinea pigs have more than 10 different "squeaks" to communicate different things in a pack. The purring sound they make is usually used for communicating displeasure or irritation. For example, if a guinea pig is being dominant towards another, the other guinea pig may be very annoyed and start purring to show that it doesn't like being treated that way.
          2. Guinea pigs have very varied sleeping schedules. Sometimes they enjoy jumping around at night and other evenings they might feel sleepy early. It's very hard to say if guinea pigs should be classified as nocturnal, as they tend to do whatever they please and to take a lot of shorter naps instead of sleeping for several hours.
          3. When guinea pigs become "teenagers" (around 6-12 months old) they start to create a system in their pack. Some may want to stand their ground and lead the rest. This can be very stressful for more submissive piggies.
          4. Guinea pigs cannot stand the cold! While their sometimes very thick fur suggests that it might be adapted for chilly weather, this isn't the case. Unlike a few of their rodent friends (especially rabbits) they can't survive in colder weather. This is why there are no wild piggies in northern countries.

Thank you for sourcing :) It would be a lot of fun to read your book when you're done, so please tell us when you are! :D

P.S. Please ask if you need any more facts.

@Dark7_Lord It isn't really necessary to feed guinea pigs pellets, but it's recommended to do so. Pellets have an extra boost of Vitamin C in them, so unless you want to feed them extra veggies every day you need to feed them two portions of pellets a day if they're adults. Smaller piggies need three portions a day. Pellets are also good as an extra resource during the winter, as they'll need nutrients that they cannot get from vegetables, as the seasonal fruits and veggies may lack these nutrients. In conclusion, yes, you could feed your guinea pigs pellets and most owners do so, but you don't have to. Just keep in mind that if you choose not to, they'll need extra vegetables.
