@ELLIOTT_707  u made a strong point. I agree with u bout the heartache, but here's the thing Drew wasn't thinking of the heartache she was causing Bree. All what she was thinking about is keeping Bree safe at all costs even if it meant to distant herself from her. Also, the desicion that Drew take is what kept us anticipating for that moment when they'll actually make a real contact. N to mention that desicion got us emotionally involved as if we ( the readers) were the ones going through that situation. I think it was a smart move to make drew take such a decision.

Ya I know what you mean but either way that could have happened with out the heart ache from drew pushing her away cause he would have come back either way and they probably would have ended up in the same situation either way but could have avoided the pain of pushing away and being pushed 

@ELLIOTT_707 i get what u're saying. I might sound selfish but I think it's better that it went this way, now they got rid of that a..wipe for once and for all, which is better than him sticking around making both girls life a living hell. Now they can sleep with their eyes closed
