Writing may be a purification process for the writer. The audience acting as audiences do, being witnesses to the process undergone through the language of the wielder of words share the changes that the creative process has wrought. Mind you a good belly laugh either as the author writes or his audience laughs with or at the authors jokes, makes the magic of mirth a sure cleanse for most of what ails the soul.
