should i say 'they are' when talking about a person who uses they/them pronouns because grammar is ingrained into my brain, or 'they is' because I'm not referring to a plural noun

so in my debate about gender equality, this guy literally said 'well science shows that men use their left brains more while women use both, so men are more logical which makes them better leaders' and HE BELIEVED WHAT HE WAS SAYING
tbh i just pity him for his utter lack of logic
