Hello my lovelies! I know it might be a bit late but I really wanted to talk about the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement. I'm sure that everyone knows what it's about but in case you don't: it's a movement that supports people of color. The main cause for it to begin (as far as I know) was that a black man, George Floyd, was strangled by a police officer because he was apparently using a fake bill. Now, I may not be the best person to talk about this and please correct me if I'm wrong but I just felt that this issue should be faced head-on. This police officer pushed Floyd against the police car and Floyd simply stated that he wasn't resisting but instead felt claustrophobic and didn't want to sit in the car. Soon, George was forced on to the floor as an officer placed a knee on his neck. Witnesses repeatedly heard Floyd begging for him to remove his knee from his neck because he couldn't breathe, the officers did not listen. He was then slowly strangled to death as the officers did nothing about it. Many witnesses continued to point out that Floyd wasn't resisting arrest or anything and they should just put him in the car. The officers did nothing until they couldn't find a pulse and finally called an ambulance at 8:27 pm. The officer had placed his knee on George's neck for an entirety of 7 minutes and 46 seconds. Even after the ambulance arrived, he continued to keep his knee in the same position for almost a minute even though Floyd was motionless.
This was just one of the many instances where people were killed because of the color of their skin. If any of you can attend protests or spread awareness, please do. Donating to charities is also a huge help. Currently, I can't really do anything but if I could, I really would. The things you do don't even have to be that big. Even convincing relatives helps. Thank you for your time and please, please, please try to do anything in your power to support this cause and spread awareness.
