Today, a profile named "uy7960w172857" contacted me via inbox of wattpad and expressed that they were fond of my books and novels that i have written. They have stated that and I quote, "I've read the initial chapters and I feel that your novel showcases your capabilities as a writer thus, I would like to invite you to publish on our platform XXXXXX.” (that's not the name of the platform btw)
It's weird they haven't specified which novel, nor put any information otherwise. I found this incredibly suspicious, so I googled their name if this was legit. And turns out, others have experienced the same. I have read a few articles and I concluded that it indeed was a scam.
A website stated, "they're being sent by third parties who get a percentage of any sales made by XXXXXXXX, and the platform their advertising seems a little dubious. They sell this as if it were a self-publishing platform with good monetary compensation, but it seems you can only get much out of them if you're selected to be offered an exclusive contract, but the exclusive contract asks for rights that are not usual for book publishing contracts, including the right for the company in question to make their own derivative works without further compensation, which would mean that if your work was successful they could (for example) have somebody else write a sequel or other similar derivative without paying you for it. I'd definitely stay away. – occipita"
Even more so, I checked there were no 'terms and services' or any rules whatsoever. I’m also pretty sure that it was a copy paste letter.
